The young criminal that died was an 19 year old Moroccan. Two of his accomplices where arrested later (age 15 and 16). The role of the two man is under investigation, but police is investigating similar robberies.
The Moroccan youth around the incident scream he was murdered. But an other man says: "His own fault". But the Moroccan youth wants justice. Omar says: "This is racism, the woman has been perusing him until she got him". Mohammed: "That woman and her family will burn".
They kick against the police fence and scold against the police officers, who in their eyes are just hanging around. "If it had been a Moroccan they would have done much more".
Meanwhile the group of angry young Muslims his growing. "Where is that woman? Where is the hoar?". But there is also concern for the family of the dead robber. "Does anybody know where they live? Has someone already warned them?"
But the family already knows. Just a moment a go, the father of the criminal went crazy when he saw his dead son. He was swinging wild with his arms and screamed hard. Police hardly can convince the man to come with them to the police office, where a crisis team is going to support him.
That evening, when police was still investigating, Moroccan youth said: "it was a good guy, he was doing good on school too. He would never do a robbery". Later the group of Moroccan youth started shouting: "It's murder, it's murder!". And the stories the Moroccan's tell each other grow, the woman should have driven full speed over the robber. Also she would have been driving a few times over him.
Dutch people, living in the area, shake their head. They hope the situation will not escalate. They don't want to be even more scared to walk the streets. Ed says: "We are already used to a lot of things: Burglary, robbery. But if we also start murdering each other on the streets...". An other local resident, Frans is not surprised: "Because of these Maroccan's on their scooter you are scared when your walking in the street. It was only a matter of time that somebody would not take it anymore".
Later that night the Moroccan youth was close to starting riots.
I feel very sorry for the brave woman, who is now in deep trouble by what happened to her.
This whole thing does me remind of an incident that happened two years ago, also in Amsterdam. Then a policeman shot down an aggressive man who came running towards him with a big kitchen knife. The man died and riots broke out in the immigrant neighborhood. A big demonstration was staged against police brutality, organized by the Islamist fundamentalist AEL. But the demonstration was also attended by a known socialist of the local PvdA. At the time, the socialist burgomaster Cohen (PvdA) suspended the police officer involved.
