Gaos at Secret service
The Dutch AIVD (Secret Service) has not enough insight in what its interpreters do with the translated material. The interpreters are allowed to decide for them selves what taped phone conversations are to be kept and which not. The Volkskrant [newspaper] reports this today.
The newspaper has the statements of the arrested 34 year old AIVD employee and interpreter / translator Outman Ben A. who is suspected of leaking of state secrets to radical Muslims.
Outman Ben A., lived in Nijmegen and was of Moroccan descent, was arrested on 30 September 2004 for violations of state secrets and leaking information to terrorist suspects. Monday he must he appear for a pro forma meeting of the court of Rotterdam.
Outman Ben A. was to all likelihood involved in the Hofstad network [*] investigation. He would have leaked ultra secret reports to the members of this network in Amsterdam and Den Haag.
According to the reports that the newspaper (Volkskrant) has, shows that Ben A. did his work without guidelines and was allowed to determine for himself if a conversations was important or not. Because the shortage at the AIVD was so enormous that he soon after the start of his employment in October 2003, got an important role. Civil servant was parachuted in an big terrorism investigation “without being trained on the job”.
On Saturday 25 September 2004 the AIVD received information that a person in a Islamic terrorist network had AIVD information.
The day after that the police raided the house of Hassan O. in Utrecht. There they found to papers (A4) with secret AIVD information.
On one of the letters that where found was written “Mouchabarad”, Arabic for secret service. After the arrest of Ben A. the AIVD downplayed the damage and called it of minor importance for the investigation. The justice file shows that the justice department suspects that there is much more information leaked.
* A member of the Hofstad network slaughtered Theo van Gogh. Other members are arrested for planning attacks on Representative Hirsi Ali and Wilders.
